A Warm Welcome to Author KB Walker

A storybook romance swept KB Walker from her American childhood to marriage, life and a teaching career in Yorkshire. Becoming an author seemed as likely as being a princess or an astronaut but after twenty years at the chalk-face, Kimm left schools behind and set her mind to the dream. She’s had several poems, short stories and articles published, won a handful of local prizes, as well as being invited to speak at events in the UK and US.

Welcome Kimm!

Thank you, Claire, for having me on your blog today.

Crime is my favourite genre. It’s not violence that draws me; it’s the challenge of solving puzzles. Once Removed is a “crime” novel with a twist but the puzzles are still there to be solved. Why would someone slice their own skin and how can they be helped? My characters grew out of those questions.

My favourite scenes are all near the end of the story and give too much away. But this book isn’t all darkness, doom and gloom. For a start, it’s set in stunning Yorkshire. I’ll share an excerpt from a scene featuring the young teacher and offer a little treat from my Readers’ Group Pack ~

“You should be able to get five pieces from this lemon drizzle cake, girls. It’s nearly closing time and I’ll make a fresh one for tomorrow.” Kate assembled plates, cutlery and serviettes onto a tray alongside a rather large chunk of cake. “I’ll bring your drinks over in a minute.”

“Oh, you are a wicked temptress, Kate,” teased Yasmin. “That’s why we love you so.” She patted the older woman’s hand and we turned to walk over to our friends.

“I hope you’re hungry.” Thankful for Yasmin’s light tone, I set the tray down on the low table in front of the others. “I feel I ought to warn you, though. This is Kate’s secret weapon. One bite and you’ll be an addict. Lemon drizzle withdrawal symptoms are not a pretty sight.”
